In particular, Part 1 and 2 specifies the risks and limits associated with pushing and pulling activities performed by an adult worker in an upright position, applying force with both hands to move or stop an object.

It takes into account a number of variables that affect the magnitude of the risk:

- Posture adopted.

- Frequency, duration and distance travelled.

- Characteristics of the object.

- Individual characteristics of the operator.

- Conditions of the working environment.
